Tanners cut prices of hides

Wednesday, 23 September 2015

Tanners have lowered the prices of hides and skin on global cues. They will buy cow hide at Tk50-55 per square foot in Dhaka and Tk40-45 in the rest of the county this year, reducing the rate for straight second year. “The rates have been cut considering lower rates in the international market,” Bangladesh Tanners’ Association (BTA) President Shaheen Ahmed said on Wednesday after announcing the rates in a media briefing. The price of goat hide has been set at Tk20-22 in Dhaka and for ‘Baqra’ goats at Tk 15-17, while buffalo hide will be bought at Tk 35-40.
Last year, the price for cow hide was Tk70-75 in Dhaka and Tk60-65 elsewhere. The price of goat hide was Tk30-35 per square foot and for ‘Baqra goat’ Tk25-30. Rates for buffalo hides, however, have remained unchanged.
BTA Advisor Aftab Khan said that the tanners still have hides collected after last year’s Eid-ul Azha. “Rates in the international market are also low. That’s why we decreased the price,” he told bdnews24.com.
