Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday laid emphasis on tapping the business and economic opportunities utilising the relation between Bangladesh and the United Nations (UN).
They said Bangladesh could highlight its image as a leading contributor to the UN peacekeeping missions for expanding the export business.
The opinion came at the seminar on 'Multi-sectoral Cooperation with United Nations' at the BIPSOT Auditorium in Gazipur, a statement said.
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT) jointly organised the seminar.
President of the apex trade body Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin), Commandant of the BIPSOT Major General Sajjadul Haque and FBCCI Senior Vice-President Sheikh Fazle Fahim addressed the meeting, among others.
Mr. Shafiul Islam mentioned the role of private sectors in the country's fast-paced economic development in the recent years.
He said the FBCCI is intensely collaborating with the government to make the country's investment atmosphere more attractive for the foreigners.
Admiring the Bangladeshi entrepreneurs' innovative capacity, the FBCCI president expressed the hope that Bangladesh would turn into a strong economy in the coming years by dint of continuous efforts from the business communities, led by the government.
Mr. Sajjadul Haque said Bangladesh has been widely respected by the UN due to the country's contribution through sending second highest peacekeepers to the UN missions.
Bangladesh might get benefit by establishing multi-sectoral cooperation with the UN by highlighting its acceptability, he said.
Managing Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Bangladesh, Mamun Rashid presented a keynote paper at the seminar, underlining Bangladesh's prospect in expanding its trade relation with the UN.
He said information technology (IT), apparel, light engineering and agriculture are highly promising sectors in this regard.
