Target fixed to procure 5,165mt Boro seeds in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Feb 23 (BSS): Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has fixed the target to procure 5,165 metric tonnes of Boro seeds from the district in the current season.
According to BADC sources, the seeds will be collected through its two wings including 'Audhik Beej Office' and 'Contract Growers Office'.
Contract Growers office will procure 2,945 metric tons seeds while Audhik Beej Office will procure 2,220 metric tonnes of seeds.
According to Contract Growers office sources, 2,945 acres of land has been brought under boro cultivation through 487 farmers under 256 schemes to achieve the target. The office said, 1, 000 MT BRRI-28 variety, 1, 655 MT BRRI-29 variety, 50 MT BR-26 variety and 240 MT BR- 14 variety will be procured.
On the other hand Audhik Beej Office has brought 2, 220 acres of land through 437 farmers under 207 schemes to meet the target.
Audhik Beej Office sources said, they would procure five varieties of Boro seeds. The seeds are 20 MT BR-3, 50 MT BR-14, 50 MT BR-16, 1,000 MT BRRI-28, 1, 100 MT BRRI-29.
Deputy Director, Contract Growers, Khagendra Chandra Roy said, plantation of boro seedlings has been completed. They will start procurement of quality seeds from mid May next from their farmers, he added.
