The government has sued BNP Chairperson's eldest son Tarique Rahman, her youngest son Arafat Rahman Coco and businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun, the owners of MV Coco-4, after Friday's launch tragedy that drowned nearly 78 people.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan told reporters at his office Wednesday that Bangladesh Shipping Corporation filed the case with the Marine Court Monday against M/s Rahman Brothers Ltd, the shipyard that built MV Coco-4, the ill-fated launch.
Mr Tarique, is the managing director of the shipyard, while his younger brother Arafat Rahman Coco and controversial businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun are company directors.
The shipping ministry said they would file a civil suit against the owners of the launch if found guilty by the investigation committee.
"Stern action will be taken against those responsible for the tragedy," Mr Shahjahan warned.
MV Coco-4 sank in the river Tentulia near Nazirpur launch terminal in Lalmohon of Bhola district on November 27 with around 2,000 passengers on board, a day before the Eid-ul-Azha. Search continues for scores of other missing passengers.
