Tarique gets HC bail in 2 cases

Sunday, 2 December 2007

The High Court Sunday granted former prime minister Khaleda Zia's son Tarique Rahman bail in two extortion cases. The HC simultaneously issued a ruling asking the government why the two cases would not be cancelled. The court also asked the government to explain why the trial of the cases under the emergency powers rules would not be declared illegal. The HC bench of justices Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman and Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury granted bail to the senior joint secretary general of the BNP after hearing two writ petitions submitted by Tarique. Barrister Rafiq-ul Haque and advocate Afzal H Khan defended the petitioner in court.
