Tarique turns 61
No celebrations, says BNP
Thursday, 20 November 2025
The BNP has instructed its party leaders and activists not to hold any kind of event or celebration for party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman birthday this year, report agencies.
In a media statement on Tuesday night, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the party's acting chairman turns 61 today (Thursday), and no cakes, posters, banners or discussion events may be organised to mark the occasion.
The instruction urges party leaders across Dhaka and elsewhere not to breach the restriction.
Tarique, elder son of late president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, was born on November 20, 1965.
Since Khaleda's imprisonment on February 8, 2018, Tarique has been leading the party as acting chairman from the UK, guiding leaders and members virtually.
Party insiders said Tarique may return to Bangladesh in the first week of next month, ending his more than 17 years of exile in the UK.
