A BNP senior leader termed 'false and baseless' State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam's statement about handing over of its acting chairman Tarique Rahman's Bangladeshi passport and relinquishing his nationality, reports UNB.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the comments while speaking at a press conference in the city on Monday.
He also warned that they will take legal steps against the state minister for his 'false and baseless' statement about Tarique.
"The state minister for foreign affairs told a blatant lie. We challenge the Bangladesh High Commission to show Tarique Rahman's Bangladeshi passport if he submitted it...Spreading lies against political opponents only to appease the Prime Minister and retain the cabinet portfolio is equivalent to selling one's own soul," he said.
Meanwhile, Pro- BNP teachers of Dhaka University (DU) have staged protests against the harassments of university's residential hall students who were involved in quota reform movement.
They also demanded security for the students.
Under the banner of DU white panel, more than 40 teachers brought out a silent procession from Aparajeyo Bangla and paraded the streets on the campus around 11.30 pm on Monday.
After the procession, Prof Akhter Hossain Khan, convener of the white panel, said, "The demand for quota reform is a logical demand. Students were conducting their quota reform movement peacefully. But on 8th April night, police and outsiders attacked them suddenly. Some miscreants also vandalised the house of vice-chancellor (VC)."
