Tarique's treatment to start later this week: lawyer

The treatment of BNP chief Khaleda Zia's son Tarique Rahman will start towards the end of this week probably at London's Wellington Hospital, his lawyer says, reports bdnews24.com.
Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan said at a press briefing Monday that all expenses of Tarique's treatment will be borne by Khaleda, as announced earlier.
"Meantime, various tests involving Tarique's spine have been carried out in four London hospitals. An MRI was also carried out Friday. Tarique should be admitted to a hospital for treatment after a panel of doctors reviews the different test results," Khan said.
All necessary tests and examinations on Tarique's spine had been completed and he would be treated in one of the four hospitals - King's Oak, Hammer Smith, Wellington and Independent.
"(Khaleda Zia) has, in the meantime, sent foreign currency worth Tk 0.63 million (6.34 lakh) to London for Tarique's treatment. She has thanked all Tarique's well-wishers who offered to bear his treatment costs."
Tarique has asked for the blessings of the people of Bangladesh, the lawyer said and added that his younger brother Arafat Rahman Coco is also undergoing long-term treatment in Bangkok.
Tarique and his family left Dhaka for London on September 11 on being bailed by the High Court on September 4.
He was arrested on March 7, 2007 and during his detention, fell seriously ill with pain in the waist and spinal injuries.
