Taskforce camps at Titas Bhaban

Friday, 26 October 2007

A team of the army-led special taskforce, engaged in the current anti-corruption drive, Thursday stormed into Titas Bhaban, and camped there to monitor the gas-marketing company's activities, as they have got complaints, reports UNB.
Witnesses said, the taskforce troops, led by Lt Col Hasan and Major Kamrul, made a surprise appearance at the head office of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd. Officials and employees looked worried at the sudden appearance of the force.
After going around the office, they set up a temporary office at the second floor of the building to play a watchdog role in ensuring smooth function of the state-owned company. They also set up a complain box at the entrance of the building at Karwan Bazar.
Titas Managing Director Engineer Abdullah told the reporters that the taskforce members came to the office to monitor its function.
"The taskforce members would scrutinise service rules as well as how to improve its services for the public. They would also closely monitor if there is any irregularity," he said.
He said, the special taskforce would be running office temporarily in the Bhaban for the next one month starting from October 28.
The taskforce would submit its report to the Chief Adviser's office after the month-long monitoring of the gas company's activities.
The MD also said, some of the employees and CBA leaders of the office have been asked to submit their wealth report to the taskforce, as there were "allegations against them."
Under the ongoing drive, launched by the interim regime against corruption and crime, troops of the taskforce are taking position in various important public-service institutions mired in allegations of corruption.
Earlier, they made makeshift offices at RAJUK Bhaban, Nagar Bhaban and at the building of National Housing Authority.
