Tax Fair this time in 86 upazilas

The preparation for holding the tax fair in 86 Upazilas across Bangladesh is at the final stage aiming to increase the number of taxpayers in the country. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) for the first time has decided to hold its annual tax fair in 86 Upazilas across the country to attract eligible taxpayers to regular tax payment. The fair will take place in 29 Upazilas for two days and 57 Upazilas for one day between September 16 and September 22. The Upazilas selected for holding the income tax fair are Savar and Ashulia in Dhaka district; Sonargaon, Rupganj and Araihazar in Narayanganj; Mirzapur in Tangail, Kaliganj, Kaliakoir, Kapasia and Sreepur in Gazipur; Shaturia and Singair in Manikganj, Madhabdi, Palash, Monohordi, Raipura and Shibpur in Narsingdi,  Sreenagar and Tongibari in Munshiganj, Tungipara and Muksudpur in Gopalganj, Pangsha in Rajbari; Boalkhali, Bhanga and Sadarpur in Faridpur, Rajoir and Shibchar in Madaripur, Jajira and Naria in Shariatpur, Hathazari, Raozan, Lohagara, Chandanaish, Patiya, Sitakunda, Satkania, Boalkhali and Anowara in Chittagong, Begumganj in Noakhali; Raipur in Laxmipur, Hajiganj in Chandpur, Ashuganj in Brahmanbaria, Daganbhuiyan in Feni; Chakaria and Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar;  Chhatak in Sunamganj,Madhabpur in Habiganj; Sreemangal in Moulvibazar; Golapganj and Balaganj in Sylhet; Syedpur in Nilphamari, Pirganj in Thakurgaon; Badarganj in Rangpur; Bochaganj and Phulbari in Dinajpur; Gobindaganj in Gaibandha; Dupchachia, Sherpur and Gabtoli in Bogra; Shahjadpur in Sirajganj; Bhawaniganj and Bagha in Rajshahi; Shibganj in Chapainawabganj, Ishwardi, Shanthia and Kashinathpur in Pabna; Mohadebpur in Naogaon; Singra in Natore; Khepupara and Galachipa in Patuakhali, Swarupkathi in Pirojpur, Lalmohan in Bhola, Nalchhity in Jhalakati; Bheramara in Kushtia, Kaliganj in Jhenidah; Jhikargacha and Noapara in Jessore; Mongla in Bagerhat and Kaliganj in Satkhira; Kendua in Netrakona; Bhoirab and Hossainpur in Kishoreganj; Dewanganj in Jamalpur, Bhaluka and Muktagacha in Mymensingh; and Nalitabari in Sherpur. Last year, the tax fair was held in the divisional headquarters for 7 days, 54 districts for four days and three hill districts for two days. The amount of tax that collected from the tax fair across the country was Tk 1675,30,73,451 and services were provided to 649,185 taxpayers. A number of 15,907 people took new e-TIN while 10,838 TIN holders took the e-TIN. The NBR in 2010 for the first time in the country organised the fair in Dhaka and Chittagong to provide one-stop services to taxpayers. "The Board has already directed the commissioners of the respective tax zones and the preparation is at the final stage," a senior official of the NBR has said. He said the Board believes that there are huge eligible taxpayers still remain out of the tax net at the upazila level. "We would like to bring them under the tax net. These eligible people will be encouraged if they see that the taxmen are at their doorsteps," he said. Currently, the enlisted number of taxpayers in the country is around 1.8 million. In the last fiscal (2014-2015) year, some 1.07 million taxpayers submitted their income tax returns, down from the 2013-2014 fiscal which was 1.16 million, according to a news agency.
