Tazreen chair Mita lands in jail

A Dhaka court on Thursday sent Tazreen Fashions chairperson Mahmuda Akhter Mita to jail, rejecting her bail petition in a case over devastating fire in the garment factory that killed more than 100 workers in 2012. Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Shahidul Islam passed the order following a hearing on the plea. Mita surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dhaka and submitted a petition seeking fresh bail in the morning while state lawyer Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul opposed the bail plea. On March 20, a Dhaka court rejected the bail to the Tazreen Fashions chair and ordered her to appear before the lower court within 15 days, which will end on Friday. On February 9, a court here sent Managing director and owner of Tazreen Fashions Delwar Hossain and Mita to jail after rejecting their bail petitions. On Feb 10, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Dhaka, M Ismail Hossain granted bail to Mita and she was released from jail the following day. On Feb 12, Public Prosecutor Khandaker Abdul Mannan of Dhaka District and Sessions Judge’s Court filed a revision petition with the court of Judge Abdul Mozeed opposing her (Mita’s) bail, according to UNB.
