Tazreen chairman Mita sent to jail

A Dhaka court Thursday sent chairman of Tazreen Fashions, Mahmuda Akhter Mita, to jail after rejecting her bail petition in a case in connection with the devastating fire in the garment factory that claimed over 100 lives in 2012, reports UNB.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Shahidul Islam passed the order after a hearing on the bail petition filed by Mita's lawyer Golam Gous.
Mita surrendered before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Dhaka, and submitted a petition seeking fresh bail while state lawyer Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul opposed the bail plea.
On March 20, a Dhaka court rejected the bail to the Tazreen Fashions chairman and ordered her to appear before the lower court within 15 days, which will end Friday.
On February 9, a court sent managing director and owner of Tazreen Fashions Delwar Hossain and chairman of the company Mahmuda Akther Mita to jail after rejecting their bail petitions.
On February 10, Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate M Ismail Hossain granted bail to Mita and she was released from the Dhaka central jail the following day.
Tazreen MD Delwar Hossain is now in jail.
