TCB to import red lentil from Nepal

Monday, 28 December 2009

FE Report
Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is going to import red lentil from Nepal, said sources.
The consignment from Nepal will reach the country by mid-January, and TCB will sale the item through its distributors, said a source at the government trade agency.
Nepal and India have banned pulse import due to bad production of the crop. However, Commerce Minister Faruk Khan at the WTO ministerial meet had a fruitful discussion with his Nepalese counterpart. Then the Nepalese commerce minister agreed to supply a substantial amount of pulse only to TCB.
A TCB team will go to Kathmandu to hammer out the final agreement and the price will be much lower, he also said.
Good quality red lentil is now selling at Tk 135 per kg in the local market, which was Tk 120 even a month back.
"We expect that its price will be reduced by Tk 20 to Tk 25 per kg from the current level when the Nepalese pulse will reach the market," he added.
