TCB to sell 5 essential items before Ramadan

Wednesday, 12 March 2014

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said that the government has decided to start selling five essential commodities in open market to check price hike 15 days before Ramadan begins.
“Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has taken preparation so that the prices of commodities can’t increase in the upcoming Ramadan,” he said.
The government, he said, has taken steps to sell edible oil, lentils, sugar, gram and date through TCB, he said.
The minister was talking to journalists after a meeting with TCB officials at Commerce Ministry in the secretariat in the city, according to a news agency.
The minister informed that the commodities will be sold through 174 open trucks across the country in three phases- 15 days before, first week of Ramadan and mid-Ramadan.
The businessmen play a key role in free-market economy, said the minister adding that the government is aware so that artificial crisis can’t be created by slowing down supply and illogical price hike to destabilise the market.
