Tea market continues to remain strong

Thursday, 14 January 2010

FE Report
The tea market continued to remain strong with buyers concentrating on clean liquoring teas, as a result of which prices again appreciated for these varieties, according to the National Brokers Limited.
Blenders were active with some interest shown by Loose tea buyers while Pakistan stayed out of the market.
Dusts saw a stronger market at dearer rates.
BROKENS: Good liquoring Brokens were in strong demand but were often a touch easier, particularly the bolder varieties. Smaller types, however, were generally dearer by Tk 2.0 to Tk 3.0 and these could be quoted between Tk 162 and Tk 166. Plainer varieties were often a little easier and there was a few withdrawals in this category.
FANNINGS: Clean liquoring Fannings were a stronger feature and appreciated by up to Tk 2.0 to Tk 4.0 and these could be quoted between Tk 165 and Tk 167, but plainer varieties were also a dearer feature and offer moved up by Tk 2.0 to Tk 4.0.
CTC Dust: 5,072 packages and 8 packages of old season on offer once again met with a strong demand with prices closely following quality. All good liquoring varieties were keenly competed for and were dearer by up to Tk 10 and sometimes more with the best lines selling at Tk 170 and above. All others were mostly firm in line with quality but some end of season varieties saw an easier market with some withdrawals. Blenders lent strong support with fairly good interest from the loose tea buyers. There was selective export enquiry for the best liquoring varieties.
