Tea prices decline

Friday, 4 June 2010

After several consecutive weeks of price appreciation, the market saw a decline in price last week particularly towards the close with some teas remaining unsold, according to the tea market report by National Brokers Ltd.
Blenders were initially operating in good strength but later their interest was more selective. Similarly, the Loose tea buyers were more selective. As a result, average prices declined by several taka. There was once again no Export enquiry.
Dusts were easier except for which were a dearer market.
CTC LEAF: 10,892 packages and 480 packages of old season on offer met with a good demand but prices declined as the sale progressed with some withdrawals.
BROKENS: All Brokens were initially a good market but were easier by Tk 2.0 to Tk 3.0 and these sold between Tk 193 and Tk 197 but thereafter, eased further. Medium and plainer varieties declined by a larger margin often by up to Tk 5.0 to Tk 7.0 with a few withdrawals.
FANNINGS: Good liquoring Fannings were in good demand at the opening and sold at slightly easier rates but progressively declined in prices often by up to Tk 7.0 to Tk 9.0 towards the close. Their best could be quoted between Tk 193 and Tk 197. Medium and planer teas declined further with the withdrawals.
CTC DUST: 2,120 packages on offer met with a fairly good demand. RDs met with less competition and eased by Tk 3.0 to Tk 8.0 over the previous week. Ds were a fair market and were generally easier by Tk 3.0 to Tk 5.0 and occasionally more. CDs were a strong feature and advanced by Tk 7.0 to Tk 12 and often more. Blenders continued to be quite active with fair support from the Loose tea buyers.
