Tea prices fall steeply
Wednesday, 16 April 2014
CTC LEAF: 14,334 packages of teas on offer met a limited demand with heavy withdrawals.
BROKENS/FANNINGS: There was again only a nominal weight of clean tea which met with less demand where sales declined by Tk. 15 to Tk. 20. Prices for these varieties ranged between Tk. 120 and Tk. 140. Others were also a much lower market with heavier withdrawals.
CTC DUST: 2,746 packages and 35 packages of old season teas on offer met with much less demand. All grades were again a lower market easing by Tk. 10 to Tk. 20- with heavier withdrawals. Both Blenders and Loose tea buyers lent much less support.
COMMENTS: Again the offerings comprised of end of season quality and with the lack of buying interest from the Blenders, witnessed a sharp price dropoff. There were also very heavy withdrawals. Loose tea buyers as well as Pakistan operated on cheaper tea.
Dusts met with much less demand and witnessed heavier withdrawals.
