Tea prices firm

Thursday, 10 June 2010

Market was quite strong as the sale progressed and most prices were firm towards the close. There was hardly any withdrawal. Blenders were operating in greater strength while there was more interest from the loose tea buyers. There was no export enquiry.
Dusts met with more competition at fully firm to slightly dearer rates.
CTC LEAF: 16,044 packages and 577 packages of old season were on offer. After a hesitant start, demand strengthened and prices were firm. There was also less withdrawal.
BROKENS: All brokens had a good market but were a little easier at the onset. However, with the progress of sale, they were firm and the best could be quoted between Tk 192 and Tk 195. Medium and plainer varieties had generally a firm market.
FANNINGS: Good liquoring fannings were a strong feature but were slightly easier at the beginning. However, prices firmed up as the sale progressed. The best could be quoted between Tk 192 and Tk 195. Medium ones were generally firm while plainer teas were slightly dearer.
CTC DUST: 3,352 and 44 packages of old season on offer met with a strong demand. All varieties witnessed more competition this week and were fully firm. Blenders were more active with good support from the loose tea buyers especially for the liquoring varieties.
