Tea sale sees much less demand

Wednesday, 4 May 2011

The weekly tea sale in Chittagong Tuesday was marked by much less demand, whereby prices declined quite substantially particularly for the medium and plainer varieties, according to a press release. There was some interest from the Blenders whilst Loose Tea buyers were less active. Good liquoring Dusts met with a fair demand. CTC Leaf: 11,396 and 1,392 packages of Old Season on offer met with less demand at easier rates with quite heavy withdrawals. Brokens: A handful of good liquoring Brokens met with a good demand and sold well although prices declined. These ranged between Tk 170.00 and Tk 177.00 per kilogram (Kg). Medium and plainer varieties declined by a greater margin and mostly sold between Tk 158.00 and Tk 168.00. There were some withdrawals in this category. Fannings: There was much less demand for all types. However, a few good liquoring varieties met with fair interest and prices for these ranged between Tk 170.00 and Tk 175.00. Medium and plainer Fannings were mostly neglected particularly the latter which, where sold, declined by a greater margin. Withdrawals were fairly heavy in this category. CTC Dust: 1,595 and 243 packages of Old Season on offer met with a fair demand at easier rates with some withdrawals. Good liquoring CDs met with a good demand but were easier and realised between Tk 210.00 and Tk 230.00. All Ds were a much easier market. Good liquoring varieties sold between Tk 186.00 and Tk 193.00 whilst Mediums sold between Tk 172.00 and Tk 182.00. Likewise, RDs also met with less demand and generally sold between Tk 170.00 and Tk180.00. Loose tea buyers lent fair support whilst Blenders continued to be selective.
