Tea workers to continue agitation

Thursday, 18 August 2022

FE REPORT
Tea workers of the country Wednesday vowed to continue their ongoing agitation as no decision about fulfilling their various demands, including a wage hike, came from a tripartite meeting which continued till filing this report at around 10pm on the day.
Director General of the Department of Labour (DoL) Khaled Mamun Chowdhury was holding the talks with representatives from tea garden owners and workers. The workers have been staging agitation for the last few days to realise their demands including enhancement of daily wages to Tk 300 and other facilities.
As the meeting failed to produce any result acceptable to the workers till that time, the workers' representatives told the reporters that they would continue their ongoing agitation as long as their demands remained unmet.
"We have placed our demands including enhancing our daily wages to Tk 300 from the existing Tk120. And we will continue our ongoing agitation to realise them," Raju Gaula Organising Secretary of Central Committee of the Tea Workers Union, said at the venue of the meeting at Shrom Bhaban in the city.
