\\\'Teachers to be given training online for quality edn\\\'

COMILLA, Apr 4 (BSS): Education Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Khan said teachers will be given training through online as a part of massive skill improvement initiatives aiming to improve quality of education in the country.
"Alongside face-to-face training, we will take steps to impart training facilities to the teachers through Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for enhancing their efficiency," he told a views- exchange meeting on "Use of ICT for improving quality of education" at Comilla Government Teachers Training College here yesterday (Friday).
Comilla Government Teachers Training College organised the meeting with its Principal Prof Porimal Kanti Pal in the chair, an official release said.
Chairman of Comilla Education Board Prof Kundu Gopidas, Advisor of Access to Information (a2i) programme Md Faruq Ahmed, teachers of the training college and officials of local administration, among others, addressed the meeting.
Khan said, "It is difficult to provide training to a large number of teachers under face-to-face arrangement. So, we are going to introduce online training facilities for teachers to improve the standard of education."
As the country has witnessed a remarkable progress in the field of ICT, training through online will significantly contribute to boost the quality of education, he added.
Khan said nearly 70,000 teachers have been given training on multimedia classroom and digital content in the past four years aiming to cope with ICT based education programme.
Referring to the various initiatives of ICT, he said the government has set up 23,500 multimedia classrooms at secondary level educational institutions to promote use of ICT in the education sector.
