Teams still 'keen on Symonds'

Tuesday, 9 June 2009

Andrew Symonds' international career may have reached its final stage following yet another alcohol-related incident which resulted in him being sent home from the World Twenty20, but domestic teams in South Africa are still keen to sign him up, his manager Matt Fearon has said.
Queensland Cricket have already said they'd like Symonds to play for the state and Fearon said, so have domestic sides outside Australia.
"It's fair to say he's constantly sought after from many regions, both prior to this happening and currently," Fearon told AAP. "They are areas we haven't explored before because he's always been focused on playing international cricket. They're options for him if he chooses to do that."
Fearon said money would not influence the choice Symonds, who plays for the Deccan Chargers in the IPL, eventually makes. "There's no doubt he's looking at continuing to play cricket and there are good opportunities there for him. But it will be about enjoyment rather than this is where I can make the most money."
Fearon said at this time Symonds wanted to surround himself with people he felt would support him and have the right influence on him. "As far as where the Australian team is headed and the culture within, that's changed significantly and he's no longer a good fit there. Queensland Cricket have been a big part of his career and are supporting him now and would be an avenue for him as well."-Cricinfo
