Technical education focusing on the job market could lead the country to making a developed nation that would be able to face global challenges, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid at a workshop Tuesday. "There is no alternative to job-oriented education in the 21st century for boosting the economy," the minister said. Mr Nahid was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of a five-day workshop titled "Capacity Strengthening for Policy and Performance Analysis and Preparation of TVET Reform Project in Bangladesh". TVET is a European Union (EU)-funded programme in the country aimed at reducing the country's poverty through reforms of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems. UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) Dhaka office jointly organised the workshop in collaboration with the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) at the DTE auditorium in the city. The minister said the government has put emphasis on employment-oriented technical education to develop manpower as a skilled and productive workforce for nation-building.
