The deal on the long-standing Teesta water sharing between India and Bangladesh will be signed as soon as possible, International Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Gowher Rizvi said Tuesday. "It is good for our country to sign the agreement at the earliest as the time is crucial," he said while speaking as chief guest at the opening session of a discussion on 'Bangladesh-India Security Dialogue' at a city hotel. He also said the majority people of the country want an improved relation with the neighbouring India through signing of the treaty. Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) organised the two-day dialogue in association with Delhi-based Observer Research Foundation (ORF). BEI president Farooq Sobhan presided over the function. The adviser to the Prime Minister also elaborated the government's achievement in solving some key issues like border demarcation, 24-hour access through Tin Bigha Corridor and duty-free export of Bangladesh products to India. Some vital issues like water management, joint river-basin management and regional connectivity will have to be resolved to further strengthen the relations between the two countries, he said. Terming secularism and peace the common aspirations of both the countries, he said that there are no fundamental issues that can deteriorate the Indo-Bangla relationship.
