Teknaf landport fails to earn targetted revenue

CHITTAGONG, July 17: Teknaf Landport customs witnessed a big shortfall in its 2007-08 fiscal's revenue income. It realised revenue amounting to taka 700 million against its target of Tk 951.6 million set by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) earlier, concerned sources said.

The landport could not earn the targetted revenue for a single month of the preceding fiscal due to different grounds. On the other hand, it was able to earn much more revenue than the target during the previous fiscal.

The sources said, out of the goods imported from Myanmar under the border trade agreement the government earns maximum revenue from fishes. But the importers were less active in the last fiscal as they became panicky because of the law-enforcing agencies' drive against import of formalin-mixed fish from Myanmar.
