COX'S BAZAR, Oct 4 (UNB): Telecommunication and Internet service with 22 countries of the world were snapped for seven hours from 10pm Wednesday as miscreants cut submarine optical fibre line here.
Officer-in-Charge of Chakoria thana Ruhul Amin Siddiqui said a police patrol team caught three miscreants red handed while they were stealing wire from two feet below the ground at Uttar Harbang in Chakoria Upazila at about 4.00am Thursday.
The criminals began cutting the optical fibre line at about 10pm Wednesday and nearly completed lifting the wires at about 4.00am when law enforcers chased them.
Three criminals -- Shabbir Ahmed, Ahmad Hossain and Mahbubul Haque all residents of Villagerpara in Chakoria thana -- were arrested along with wire of optical fibre and wire cutting machine.
An official of local optical landing station said telecommunications with 22 countries of the world and Internet service were hampered for seven hours due to lifting of the wire.
The submarine optical fibre line, opened in May last year, was brought up to Chittagong under the seabed from Cox's Bazar for better telecommunications and Internet service.
