Ten most-traded issues grab 40pc turnover

Sonali Paper leads the DSE transaction chart

Ten-most traded stocks grabbed nearly 40 per cent transaction of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Thursday while Sonali Paper & Board Mills topped the turnover list.
Sonali Paper, a concern of Younus Group, became the day's top turnover leader after a long time as investors were active on its shares after impressive earnings growth, a stockbroker said.
According to available data with the DSE, some 1.08 million shares of Sonali Paper were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 739 million, which was 9.37 per cent of the day's total turnover.
The company's share closed at Tk 668.30 on Thursday, losing slightly by 1.46 per cent over the previous day.
However, the company's share price soared 35 per cent in the last 12 trading days. Its shares traded between Tk 217.20 and Tk 965.80 in the last one year.
Meanwhile, Sonali Paper raised Tk 109.82 million by issuing over 10.98 million rights shares at Tk 10 each last month for purchasing brand new caterpillar gas generator sets with complete standard accessories.
Market operators said investors showed their buying appetite for Sonali Paper shares in the recent weeks as the company reported an impressive earnings growth in the latest quarters.
The company has posted a massive 670 per cent increase in its net profit in nine months for July 2021-March 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year.
The company has reported earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 14.72 for July 2021-March 2022 as against Tk 1.91 for July 2020-March 2021.
The company disbursed 20 per cent cash and 20 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2021. In 2020, it provided 5.0 per cent cash and 10 per cent stock dividend.
Its paid-up capital is Tk 219.63 million and authorised capital is Tk 500 million while total number of securities is Tk 21.96 million.
Sponsors hold 67.51 per cent stakes in the company, institutions 8.58 per cent and the general public the remaining 23.91 per cent as of May 31, 2022, according to DSE data.
Sonali Paper came back to the main board of the stock exchanges from the OTC market on July 26, 2020.
IPDC Finance came second on the turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 555 million changing hands. The company's share rose 6.33 per cent to close at Tk 60.50 on Thursday.
Beximco clinched the third spot, with shares worth Tk 535 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 131.80, losing 0.83 per cent over the previous day.
Fortune Shoes emerged as the fourth, with shares worth Tk 249 million changing hands. The shoe maker's share dropped 1.88 per cent to close at Tk 88.70.
Intraco Refueling Stations notched the fifth spot, with shares worth Tk 193 million changing hands. The company's share closed at Tk 31.30, gaining 0.64 per cent.
The turnover of Fu-Wang Food was Tk 176 million. The company's share price advanced 1.92 per cent to close at Tk 26.50 on Thursday.
Delta Life Insurance featured a turnover of Tk 174 million. The life insurer's share closed at Tk 148, losing 1.48 per cent over the previous day.
The turnover of BDCOM Online was Tk 152 million. The company's share price jumped 5.64 per cent to close at Tk 35.60 on Thursday.
Genex Infosys featured a turnover of Tk 146 million. The IT firm's share closed at Tk 80.20 each, rising 1.47 per cent over the previous day.
The state-run Titas Gas Transmission & Distribution Company also made its way to the day's top turnover chart, with shares worth Tk 143 million changing hands. The company's share price rose 1.62 per cent to close at Tk 43.80.
