Ten top-traded cos clinch 25 per cent transaction

Low-cap issues continue dominate turnover, gainers' chart

The ten top-traded companies accounted for more than 25 per cent of the total transactions on the country's premier bourse on Monday. CVO Petrochemicals Refinery topped the list.
Market operators said the day's top turnover chart was dominated by mostly low-cap companies as investors were active on low-cap companies' shares throughout the trading session.
"Investors preferred to take position on mostly low-cap issues by selling large-cap stocks for quick-gain, taking them in top turnover and gainers' chart," said an analyst at a leading merchant bank.
According to statistics available with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), a total of 816,304 shares of CVO Petrochemicals were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 187 million or 4.96 per cent of the total transactions.
The total turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 3.77 billion, which was 14 per cent lower than the previous day's turnover of Tk 4.40 billion.
The CVO's shares price traded between Tk 216 and Tk 233.70, before closing at Tk 230.10, soaring 7.07 per cent over the previous day. The company's share price surged 18.73 per cent within last 10-trading session.
In the last one year, the "B" category company's share price hovered between Tk 176 and Tk 280.
The company's un-audited second quarter (Q2) earnings per share (EPS) was minus Tk 0.10 for October-December, 2017 as against minus Tk 0.92 for the same period a year ago.
In six months for July-December period of 2017, EPS was minus Tk 0.17 as against minus Tk 1.34 for July-December, 2016.
The board of directors of the company, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 1990, disbursed only 2.0 per cent stock dividend for the year ended on June 30, 2017. In 2016, the company paid 25 per cent cash dividend.
Other active shares in terms of value included Unique Hotel & Resorts, Brac Bank, Keya Cosmetics, Monno Ceramic Industries, Zaheen Spinning, Square Pharmaceuticals, Fine Foods, Fu-Wang Foods and LankBangla Finance.
Unique Hotel followed next with shares worth Tk 120 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 62, remaining unchanged over the previous session.
Brac Bank saw its shares worth Tk 119 million changing hands. The bank's share price advanced 0.43 per cent to settle at Tk 92.80.
Keya Cosmetics emerged fourth with shares worth Tk 91 million changing hands. The company's share price closed at Tk 10.50, losing 0.09 per cent over the previous session.
Monno Ceramic generated a turnover of Tk 82 million. The company's share price ended at Tk 137.10, inching up 0.29 per cent.
