Tender for CETP to be floated by Oct 15: Barua

Industries Minister Dilip Barua Wednesday said the government would float tender next month for setting up a central effluent treatment plant in Savar industrial belt to relocate tanneries from the capital.
"The government is sincere about shifting the tanneries to Savar and the tender for CETP will be floated by October 15," a statement quoted the minister as saying.
He met leaders of Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) and Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters Association (BFLLFEA) at his secretariat office in the city.
During the meeting, the business leaders drew the attention of the minister to the financial aspect of the transfer of the tannery industry to Savar.
Mr Barua said the government would take all necessary steps to protect the country's leather industry.
"Long-term loans on easy conditions can be provided to the entrepreneurs to relocate the industry," he said.
Industries secretary Dewan Zakir Hossain, former caretaker government adviser Syed Manzur Elahi, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation chairman Ashraf Mohammad Iqbal, BTA chairman Md Shahin Ahmed and BFLLFEA chairman Razaul Karim Ansari were present during the meeting.
