Tens of thousands of people joined 'urs' in Fatikchhari upazila in Chittagong, marking the fourth anniversary of Sufi saint Syed Moinuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari’s demise on Wednesday. Special prayers were offered during the two-day 'urs'. The devotees arrived in Fatikchhari jamming buses, trains and cars from different parts of the country. They congregated on the Maizbhandar Darbar, a leading centre of Islamic spiritualism, to join the 'urs' in remembrance of the saint who passed away on August 17 four years ago. "Throughout his life in this world, he (Syed Moinuddin) devoted himself in attaining the qualities of our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and disseminating the divine messages," said incumbent Imam of the centre Syed Saifuddin Ahmed Maizbhandari. Leading Islamic scholars and spiritual figures supplemented Ahmed saying that Syed Moinuddin was blessed with the divine qualities to attract people of different social strata with his extra ordinary soothing character and instill into them the spirit of humanity and peace and urge for self-purification. The ‘urs’ was also marked by a series of milad mahfils and discussions on life and works of Sufi-saint Syed Moinuddin, according to a news agency.
