Termination of 60 local staff of 'UNDP not transparent'

Former Assistant Country Director of the UNDP Mozammel Hoque claimed that the process of termination of 60 local staff of the United Nations Development Pro-gramme (UNDP) was not transparent.
"The entire process of the UNDP-Dhaka's Job Fair-2007 was faulty and around 60 local staff were sacked deliberately by the authority as the Management Change Team (MCT) from the organisation's headquarters did not follow the correct process of selection," he claimed at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Saturday.
Requesting the authorities of the UNDP to settle their termination benefits without further delay, Mozammel said the family members of the sacked employees are passing their days in misery.
Terming 'concocted' the results of the job fair, the former UNDP official said tests were conducted for the same position on different days and questions for certain positions were the same (common) while the marks obtained by each of the staff were not disclosed.
"A total of 65 local staff appeared for the said job fair and out of them 60 staff were sacked from their jobs on ground of 'incompetence', from November 8 last year to February 22 this year," he added.
He demanded reassessment of the selection criteria of the job fair through conducting a neutral and transparent investigation and reinstatement of those who would be found fit for the posts.
Mozammel also urged early disbursement of termination benefits to those who would be proved inefficient and incompetent in the investigation.
