CHITTAGONG, Apr 17: A photo journalist of a local daily was attacked by gangsters who took away his camera and mobile phone while he was discharging his duties in the city today. The gang members took Sohail Sarwar, photo journalist of daily Suprabhat Bangladesh to the den of Akkas alias 'Botol Akkas' at Chawk Super Market in Chawkbazar under Kotwali police station at around 11am. Sohail alleged that Akkas and his men manhandled him and took away the camera and cell phone after taking him there. They however set him free as a police team from Kotwali raided the den. Sohail lodged a case against them with the police. President and general secretary of Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) Shahidul Alam and Nazimuddin Shyamol respectively condemned the attack on the journalist and demanded arrest of the culprits within Monday. Chittagong Reporters' Standing Committee and Photo Journalists' Association also demanded exemplary punishment of Akkas and his cadres.
