Monday, 21 July 2014

High Court has ordered that the formalin detectors which are used in Bangladesh should be properly examined. Justices Salma Masud Chowdhury and Md Habibul Gani gave the order on Monday after a writ petition was filed claiming the machine – ‘Formaldehyde Meter Z300’ which is used to detect presence of formalin in fruits in Bangladesh has been manufactured in the US to determine formalin level in the air. The judges also issued a rule asking why the device used in testing food should not be considered illegal. Sadhon Das and Sirajul Islam of Bangladesh Food Importers Association filed the petition on July 13. Based on their plea, Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, BCSRI, and Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) have been told to test the instruments in use and submit the report in four weeks, according to bdnews24.com.
