A Thai beverage company, ThaiBev, is set to submit an investment proposal in the beverage sector, considering the investment-friendly environment in Bangladesh and huge potential of the products in South Asian market.
The company is expected to submit the proposal to the ministry of industries (MoI) soon, said an official of the ministry of industries.
Earlier last month, the high-ups of ThaiBev expressed their interest to industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun during his visit to Thailand.
"They (ThaiBev) are going to send us a proposal for investment in beverage and sugar mills sector soon," a joint secretary of the industries ministry, who preferred not to be named, told the FE on Monday.
After getting the proposal, he said, there will be a meeting with the high-ups of the Thai company in Dhaka.
The official further said that the industries minister requested ThaiBev managing director Thamnai Rachakorta and vice-president Wichita Chindasombatcharoen to invest in Bangladesh.
Thai Beverage better known as 'ThaiBev' is Thailand's largest and one of the Southeast Asia's largest beverage companies. Listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, the company has a market capitalisation of more than US$ 13 billion.
