Thai business team wants to connect deep sea port in Andaman Sea with Ctg

A Thai business delegation from Fiscal Policy Institute Foundation (FPRI) expressed interest to connect Thai deep sea port in Andaman Sea with Chittagong sea port for bulk cargo trade, a press release of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) said.
According to the press release, the delegate also has shown interest to invest in power, ICT, garment, raw materials, consumer goods, diversified jute products, agro products construction services and materials and accounting & law services sector in Bangladesh.
The delegate in a meeting with the DCCI president Asif Ibrahim on 19 December '2011 has intended to extend bilateral investment and trade cooperation between Bangladesh and Thailand where vice president Nasir Hossain, secretary Mustafa Mohiuddin and deputy secretary (R&P) Humayun Kabir were also present among others.
In the meeting, DCI president highlighted the investment opportunity in Bangladesh and informed the Thai delegation that the country has very attractive opportunity for foreign direct investment and joint venture.
Mr Ibrahim also emphasized on joint venture in tourism sector which of late appeared as a domestic vibrant industry.
He also said that the Thai investors can reap benefits by utilizing the low cost labour and low cost infrastructure facilities of Bangladesh as well as the GSP facilities benefits being enjoyed by Bangladesh to European, Canadian and Japanese market.
"Bangladesh and Thailand should increase trade related programmes to boost the two-way trade between the two countries," Ibrahim added.
The Thai delegation leader Manitya informed the DCCI president that the ministry of commerce of Thailand assigned FPRI to conduct the business forum activity in Bangladesh.
