BANGKOK, July 12 (AFP): Thailand's Election Commission (EC) has recommended that frontrunner for prime minister Pita Limjaroenrat be suspended as an MP following their investigation, chairman Ittiporn Boonprakong has told AFP.
The commission on Wednesday was to submit to the Constitutional Court the findings of its probe into whether Pita broke campaign rules and comes only a day before the progressive challenger faces a crucial parliamentary vote for the premiership.
Meanwhile, Thailand's Constitutional Court agreed Wednesday to hear a case accusing PM frontrunner Pita Limjaroenrat of attempting to overthrow the monarchy, the same day that another unrelated case was submitted against him.
The court statement says the case alleges that Pita and his progressive Move Forward Party promising on the campaign trail to amend the royal defamation law amounts to attempting to "overthrow" the constitutional monarchy.
