Thailand to finalise MoU over BD manpower procurement

Friday, 13 February 2015

Thailand's Labour Minister Surasak Karnjanarat has assured Bangladesh of initiating renegotiations for finalising the proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the earliest for the recruitment of Bangladeshi sea fishery and construction workers in Thai industries, reports UNB.
He made the assurance when Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem met him recently at the Thai Ministry of Labour seeking to expedite the signing of an MoU between the governments of Bangladesh and Thailand on Cooperation in Employment of Sea Fishery  and Construction Workers.
He also expressed commitment of his government to recruit workers from Bangladesh under the proposed MoU, said a Foreign Ministry media release here on Thursday.
During the meeting, the Bangladesh Ambassador stressed the need for expediting the process of concluding the proposed MoU at the earliest.
Thailand is currently regularising around 1.6 million undocumented workers from Asean countries, including Myanmar, Cambodia and Lao PDR.
Once the process is completed, they will initiate the recruitment of foreign workers from non-Asean countries subject to market demand.
