Thakurgaon Diabetic Hospital doctors, nurses go on strike

THAKURGAON: Doctors, nurses and other staff at Thakurgaon Swasthoseba Hospital (Diabetic Hospital) went on an indefinite work abstention from Thursday. They demanded to pay their arrear salaries  and allowances immediately, according to a news agency.
The agitating medical staff alleged that the authorities have failed to pay their salaries for the last nine months.
Locals said the work abstention has led to a great deal of sufferings to hundreds of diabetic and eye patients.
Despite repeated reminders by the staff, the governing body has remained totally ineffective, he added.
Executive director of the hospital Dr Ekramul Haque told UNB that he himself has not received any salary for the last nine months.
Thakurgaon Swasthoseba Hospital was established as a diabetic hospital under a joint healthcare project of Bangladesh and the Netherlands.
At present 113 doctors and nurses are working in the hospital.
