Thalassaemia Hospital seeks donations from Zakat fund

Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity Hospital has sought donations from the Zakat fund of the financial institutions and generous individuals to provide treatment to thalassaemia patients.
A statement issued by Bangladesh Thalassaemia Samity (BTS) on Wednesday said as per a random survey, some twelve to fifteen thousand children with thalassaemia disease die every year without treatment.
These ill-fated children mostly come from insolvent families who are not capable of providing treatment support to them whereas they need regular blood transfusion for their survival since thalassaemia is a blood related disease inherited from parents.
Children become thalassaemic when both of the parents bear the complication. This is an incurable disease and only regular blood transfusion can help them survive and lead normal life.
The hospital run by BTS has been providing treatment to over 500 patients free of cost every year with the help of Zakat fund and with the support of benevolent people and financial Institutions, the statement said.
