The bigger the cheaper

Most high-end cars will see their prices decrease with next fiscal year (FY)'s budget proposing a reduction of supplementary duty. Cars ranging from 1,751cc to 2,000cc will see their supplementary duties cut from 150 per cent to 100pc. A supplementary duty cut from 250pc to 200pc will make cars from 2,001cc to 2,750cc cheaper as well. In the outgoing FY’s budget, cars ranging from 1,751 to 2,000cc are on a separate tax slab from those ranging from 1,501-1,750cc and had a supplementary duty of 150 pc. The new budget keeps duties on smaller cars unchanged. Hybrid cars, on the other hand, will see their prices go up, as will microbuses and double-cabin pickups. “This will encourage importation of more quality and environment-friendly vehicles yielding more revenue,” Muhith claimed. His new budget proposed raising duties on 1,501-1,800cc microbuses from 30 pc to 45 pc. For pickups, it was proposed that present 30 and 45 pc duty slabs on vehicles up to 1,500cc and 1,501-2,750cc range be raised to 45 and 60 pc respectively, according to a news agency.
