The curse of dowry

Everyday newspapers carry news reports of a women being tortured and often murdered for dowry. I was shocked to read a report on a girl named Zohra who was brutally tortured by her husband because she was unable to pay dowry. When will such acts of immorality come to an end? Dowry is one of the most shameful social norms of our country. Dowry is like a virus that has spread from the lower class to the upper class of people in the society. But the demand for dowry varies according to social status. The lower class demand dowry openly. The upper class people demand dowry in the form of a gift. Many Zohras are being tortured and even murdered across the country in the name of dowry.
I would like to request the authorities to act strongly to prevent such evil from happening. We shall have to stop this social crime at any cost.
