The deadline for special citizen facility need to alter

F. Helaly | Tuesday, 29 July 2008

WE appreciate that the present government has taken an excellent move for providing Special Citizen Facility to our expatriate Bangladeshis who sent home remittance worth over US$ 5,000.00 in fiscal 2007-08 aiming to boost inflow of foreign exchange. Under the facility the selected non-resident Bangladeshis will get special assistance at airport, government hospitals, public transports and security of their wealth and property. Of course! this is a lucrative offer for the expatriates from the present government.

Since 5.6 million Bangladeshis living and working abroad in over 100 countries as our valuable source of remittance, we would like to make a request to the government to alter the deadline for submission of their application. Please re-fix the deadline -- by August 31, 2007 instead of August 07, 2007. We do not think there will be any problem relating to official procedures for the offer. Many expatriates have not yet been informed of such a windfall benefit at home offered by the government. They need more time to be informed. We believe our respective Bangladesh missions in abroad are playing effective role regarding the offer.

At last, we earnestly hope that the government will make further extension on the deadline for which a good number of expatriate Bangladeshis will be able to get such a golden offer and will be more encouraged to send the remittance to home through banking channel as much as possible in the future.
