The demands of the pharmaceutical sector

Sunday, 13 September 2009

THE government should immediately accept and work on at least two of the proposals earlier made by the Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (BAPI). The BAPI demanded cash incentives for export-oriented pharmaceutical industries just like the other sectors. It would encourage export and boost the potential of the sector.
The other major demand has been the establishment of a government-operated central testing laboratory for export-oriented pharmaceutical industries. The laboratory can strengthen the reputation of Bangladesh pharmaceutical products abroad through dependable quality certification.
Our missions abroad should, under government directive, explore markets and engage in promotional activities for the sector. The patent law of 1933 should be amended to facilitate increased exports.
