The duty of highway patrol police

Thursday, 6 November 2008

PATROL police are deployed on the highways to make long journeys safe and secure. But in most cases they do not properly perform their duties. More often they are not visible on the highways. And when they are there they show a reluctance to act against wrongdoings.
In the highways, many drivers show a tendency to overtake every now and then, with high speed driving increasing the risk of accidents. Particularly, bus and truck drivers do this often leaving no space for the smaller vehicles to escape an accident. Besides, many unfit vehicles run on the highways. Interestingly, the patrol police does not pay attention to unfit vehicles emitting black smoke. The overloaded trucks are not stopped either. The highway patrol police does not distinguish between right and wrong on the highway.
As the highways of our country are not as wide as they should be, it is essential to ensure safe driving by all. Unlike the developed and many developing countries which have multiple lane highways, we still have narrow double-lane highways to make overtaking risky. Speed limit is not followed on the highways. Inefficiency and indifference of the highway patrol police could prove costly for all.
