The EC should play firm role
Thursday, 20 March 2014
The ruling party people are flouting election rules and the Election Commission (EC) is mute and totally indifferent. The passive role of the EC affects its credibility. It is also badly affecting the image of the ruling party as the common people are feeling bitter towards it. The new government has been formed two months ago through a controversial election.
Sensing brewing resentment among the common people and rising bitterness, the ruling party is trying to resort to all devices, right or wrong, to demonstrate their self-cooked popularity through upazila elections. We look upon the EC as a neutral body but the EC, that should play a firm role to flourish democracy in the country, is playing a dubious role. The common people are looking towards the EC with the hope that it will perform as per the expectation of the commoners.
