The Election Commission must play its due role

To be honest, the Election Commission does not enjoy much public confidence and no one but the commission is to be blamed for it. I hope in the upcoming city corporation elections the EC will be able to restore people's confidence in it and play its assigned role with credibility. As a matter of fact, EC has a big role to play in establishing the voting rights of the people. The EC must ensure that the every candidate gets equal opportunity and a level playing field is ensured for all candidates. Unfortunately, complaints are already coming from the opposition candidates that the election rules are openly flouted by the ruling party candidates. Here I think the ruling party must exercise highest restraint and allow the opposition so that they can take part in the elections with confidence.  The citizens are eager to cast their votes and they will choose the candidates who are honest and do not have a criminal background. I hope the people will choose candidates wisely so that long standing problems of Dhaka and Chittagong Cities are solved. Dhaka is a city of traffic jam, pollution, and dirt. The city-dwellers are suffering day in and day out. I hope we shall be able to elect worthy candidates who will bring some improvement in our city life.
