SUMI is a student of fourth year honours class in a university in Dhaka. Every year before the final exams, she does not attend classes, rather prefers to stay in her dormitory and prepares herself for the examination. Sometimes the classes before the exams are very important and she misses them justifying that she uses the time for taking preparation for the final exams.
There are many students like Sumi who stop going to the classes before exams. Even there are students who also remain regularly absent from the classes during other time of the semester. They keep themselves deprived of the enjoyment as well as the great usefulness of attending the classes.
Attending classes regularly keeps one connected with the teachers and other classmates. A student who regularly attends the classes understands what to read and what is not necessary to read. A student who does not attend classes, on the other hand, remains in darkness about the courses/subjects. Gradually he or she loses confidence, becomes detached from the teachers and other fellow classmates.
There are students, especially at university level, who think that they will be able to cover their lessons even without attending the classes. They face huge study load just before the exam, and usually go to the exam centre with rather moderate knowledge. They have to remain satisfied with moderate result. They remain deprived of the pleasure of studies, rather studies and pleasure are burdens for them.
In order to avoid huge study load before exams and derive pleasure out of studies, one must develop the habit of attending classes regularly. Through attending classes regularly, students can expect to have good concept of the chapters. They can also make themselves gradually prepared for the exam. Exams no more become a burden for them.
Through being regular in the classes students can draw the attention of the teachers. This helps students get good marks in the viva tests that are usually held at the end of the semester/year.
Attending classes regularly also helps students to be regular in studies at home. They feel motivated to complete lessons of the same day. Those who do not attend classes regularly love to keep the tasks of studying pending and their lives become miserable before exams.
