The light of independence

Wednesday, 21 April 2010

The Mujib Nagar Day was observed on April 17 all over the country. It was on this day in 1971 that the provisional government of independent Bangladesh was formed at Meherpur and the government of Bangladesh strated functioning. The Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was declared as President. In the absence of Bangabandhu, Syed Nazrul Islam was made the Acting President. Tajuddin Ahmed became the first Prime Minister of the country. The provisional government successfully led the liberation war and we eventually achieved victory on December 16, 1971. So, we got the light of independence from Mujib Nagar.
We should always remember and celebrate this historic day. The students and the young people, who were born after 1971, should know the true history of the war of 1971. As we observe the day every year, we should recall with due respect the memory of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the four national leaders.
