The plight of the Aila-affected people

Thursday, 22 July 2010

The AUTUMN Foundation will run a month-long awareness campaign on the rehabilitation of the cyclone Aila-affected people. It began on July 21 and will continue till August 21.
An estimated 100,000 helpless people are still suffering in various locations of Khulna and Satkhira districts, mainly in Dacope, Gabura and Shyamnagar areas. They are deprived of food, water, shelter, medicine, education and other essentials. The authorities have done and are still doing many good things to rehabilitate those people. But more than one year after the disaster, countless people still need vital help. Does it not mean that the authorities have not been doing enough?
AUTUMN Foundation visited the area Dacope last month. It is one of the worst affected areas in Bangladesh because of the cyclone Aila. We collected data and took photos. With those pictures we are launching this awareness campaign through photo exhibitions in several different public and private universities.
We need your support to make this campaign a success and deliver the message to the right authorities, so that measures are taken urgently to rehabilitate those 100,000 helpless people.
