The plight of the RMG sector

Friday, 11 September 2009

Some media people and others grudge the fine houses and the life style of the owners of garments industries. But let me say that they are enjoying these things after long years of toil (although toil in a different form than their workers), taking risks as entrepreneurs. The life style of the owners are not so unearned like the bureaucrats and politicians who also enjoy palatial homes and the high life in many cases without doing anything for the national economy. They are like parasites living off the fruits of what others produce.
As for charging the garments operators for asking assistance from the government to tide over their bad times on the eve of Eid, I can only ask what is so unprincipled about it. Why did the government earlier form a Taka 50 billion fund to aid recession hit industries? Was it not also for the garments industries among others? If so, then why is this uproar against the garments operators for asking a share from this fund?
